Camerata Mediolanense
Camerata Mediolanense's birth can be dated back to 1994, originating in the odd
fellowship of a few young musicians partly working with classical music and partly
active on the post-punk and gothic underground scene. With the same spirit as the
Renaissance and Baroque cameratas, Camerata Mediolanense (from Mediolanum, the
ancient name for Milano) expresses a creative and experimental musical activity
deeply-rooted in the present but it also casts back at "the ancients" its admired
look.
In time, the project experienced an important change due to the stabilization of its
line-up, thus the open ensemble of the beginning became a real "band". In the
musical language, this lead to a peculiarity which is particularly evident in the live
performances: a percussive background which comes out thanks to the use of an
unconventional set of instruments. Parallel to this, the Camerata goes on exploring
the outdated world of pure melodiousness, which is though still full of charm and
resources: in this respect, the academic background of some of its members
facilitates the awareness of the expressive potentialities and of the aesthetical
dimension of singing.
Camerata Mediolanense gives considerable importance to research and experimenting
both in composing and in the live dimension; it does not reject exploration, which can
become extreme, though always on an expressive purpose. This becomes evident in its
not so frequent performances, where the combination of the various members
creates a power of sound, a performing ability and an evocative quality which
rendered Camerata Mediolanense's concerts pure events.
